When one hears “Private Investigator,” they may immediately think of certain television shows.  Depending on the generation timeline, one may think of Joe Mannix (1967), while others may think of Buddy Ebsen starring as Barnaby Jones (1967).  Some may remember James Garner in The Rockford Files (1974) while others may remember Charlie’s Angels (1976) or Tom Select in Magnum P.I. (1980).  Some may remember Leverage (2008), Lie to Me (2009) or Elementary (2012) where Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Joan Watson work as a team, consulting with the NYPD on cases.

At RIS, we specialize in criminal defense investigations.  With our extensive background in law enforcement, we fill an important role for the defense team.  Our job is to review the police department investigation, looking for errors or omissions and to ensure proper police procedure was followed during the course of the investigation.  During our investigation we will do follow-up interviews with victims, witnesses and look for independent witnesses that the police may have overlooked or thought they did not have any important information pertaining to the investigation.  Far too many times, we have found that the police did not conduct a thorough investigation, only obtaining enough information to secure an arrest and filing the case with the local district attorney.
